According to the Yankee Group's 2006 US Small and Medium Business IT Infrastructure Survey (Oct 2006), the top concerns for SMB's in 2007 will be security, backup and restore and application and data availability.
The SearchSMB.com website reports that the Yankee Group has forecast that Disaster Recovery is going to be a top concern for SMB's this year. Analysts are in agreement that Small and Medium businesses need to build more resilience into their infrastructures. It is important that they perform regular data backups and that they store these off-site and test their disaster recovery plans regularly. While most large organisations have known this for a while and often have dedicated disaster recovery managers, it seems that the SMB market is becoming more aware of their need to be protected in the event of business disruption. This means that they need to create a Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity plan, review and improve their backup processes and test their recovery plan regularly. As anybody that has been involved in Disaster Recovery could tell you, if you haven't tested your disaster recovery plan recently, you won't be able to rely on it in a disaster. |
